Joseph L. Conners, Sr.
February 12, 1931 - July 10, 2025

Joseph Lamont Conners, 94, of Savannah, GA, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on July 10th at Hospice House after a brief illness.
Joe was born on February 12th, 1931, in Savannah, Georgia. It was the only city he ever called home. Joe was the son of Perce and Carrie Conners and brother to Helen. Joe graduated from Benedictine Military School in 1949. He proudly served his country as a US Marine Dog Company, for 3 years. One of those years being in Korea, which heavily influenced his life. After returning from the war, he met the love of his life, Martha Ward Conners, on the beach at Tybee Island. They married at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on November 11th, 1956. They were immensely proud of the three children they raised together. Joe worked as a warehouse manager for John Travis Company for 18 years and retired from there early. He spent his years of retirement traveling and loving 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Joe was an active participant in his community. He was a founding member of the Fenian Society, chairman of the Veterans Council in 2000, and was proudly Veteran of the Year in 2011. He was a devoted member of the Catholic Church and took to heart its teachings. A selfless man, Joe was known for his sense of duty and quiet devotion to the things and people he loved. He enjoyed playing golf, carpentry, being a part of his veteran community, and most of all being with his family. His dutiful heart, deep integrity, and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew him.
He is survived by his wife Martha Conners. children: Pam Finocchiaro (Mike), Carole Conners, Joseph Conners (Rebecca). grandchildren: David Finocchiaro (Lauren), Monica Yeckley (Ty), Abby Conners, and Grace Conners. Nephew: Gary Smith and Niece: Karen Watts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Perce Conners; mother, Carrie Conners; and sister, Helen Smith, as well as two nieces and a nephew.
The Rosary service will be held at Fox and Weeks - Hodgson Chapel on July 14th at 5:00 pm, with visitation to follow until 7:00 pm.
Mass of Christian Burial will follow on July 15th at 10:00 am at The Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist.

Our sincerest condolences on such a tremendous loss. Joe was a wonderful man who always had a kind word and a ready smile. He was a proud and valued member of the Marine Corps League who served his country with honor. May God bless his family and give you peace.
